The Weekly Recap
Well rom friends what a insane week its been. The Phillies lost games 4 & 5 (I know, the tragedy of it all) but game 6 is Saturday and it coincides with my 6th wedding anniversary so THEY ARE GOING TO OBVIOUSLY WIN AND FORCE A GAME SEVEN. Ahem.
Twitter, a place where I have found so many awesome other romance bloggers, authors and generally hilarious and wonderful people is rife with turbulence.
El*n M*sk, human garbage person laid off 50% (yes you read that right) of their workforce. I suspect that soon or shortly there will be a legitimate mass exodus and/or such infrastructure instability the platform will be unusable. To say nothing of the absolutely horrific amplification of anti-black, anti-Semitic, anti-indigenous, ableist assholes that seem to rejoice that sh*t-stain-astro-boy is now in charge (and proclaiming, jokes are now legal on the platform).
So where does that leave me? Well I am struggling to figure out what comes next. I like the space I’ve seemed to carve out on Twitter. I am active on a couple romance book subreddits, but it’s a different beast. Mastodon, the current alternative seems generally too much mental bandwidth. And maybe I’m getting close to 40 and even though I work in tech (and have for close to two decades), I’m just tired y’all. I keep thinking about Michaela Coel’s Emmy acceptance speech:
“In a world that entices us to browse through the lives of others to help us better determine how we feel about ourselves, and to, in turn, feel the need to be constantly visible, for visibility these days seems to somehow equate to success. Do not be afraid to disappear, from it, from us, for a while, and see what comes to you in the silence.”
In case you are wondering I only read three things this week, I loved them each in their own ways and they are just for me right now. So maybe I’ll disappear for a little bit, and see what comes to me in the silence.
Yours in romance reads,
Kelsey
