The Weekly Recap
Everything about social tech seems so unstable at the moment. Twitter Blue (predictably) has been the equivalent of Michael Scott’s many vasectomy’s (and their equal reversals).
I’m part of the aging millennial group, that’s done ICQ, ChatRooms, MySpace, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, Reddit, Twitter, TikTok and the literal THOUGHT of trying out, setting up or learning another platform is completely exhausting. No thanks. So I’ll still be here with my dumb little reviews being happy to maybe have less noise. I’m not a brand I’m a human.
🤞 Also please let the Phillies sign Trea Turner. Please.
Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love by IsThisSelfCare (Ao3)
I spent a lot of my youngish 20’s (easily 10+ years ago) very much on Tumblr. It introduced me to many things, and AU fics were absolutely one of them. This AU Harry Potter fic takes place 15 years after the war, and this brilliant #dramonie #idiotstolovers romance is up there with some of the best things I’ve read all year. The adventure, the humour, the slow-burn romance. This was it. Also I never bought her with Ron, not for one moment.
Also, absolutely fuck the source material author this fic is based on (rhymes with bowling) who is a TERF and HUGE piece of shit.
A Duke Worth Falling For by Sarah MacLean
A very sweet and banter-filled contemporary novella featuring a Duke! In secret! This one REALLY worked for me. Plus who wouldn’t want an extremely hot person making you fresh goat cheese omelettes after blowing your mind with extreme sexual competence?
Happenstance by Tessa Bailey (DNF @26%)
Big oof.
Along Came a Lady Christi Caldwell
A gender swapped My Fair Lady retelling between a VERY sunny governess and an EXTREME grump slash mine foreman who needs to enter “polite society” after his father (The Duke of Bentley) realizes of all of this by-blows (and the rest of Rafe’s siblings) existence. I really liked this one, and gosh there were a couple really emotional moments that made the love and connection between Rafe and Edwina really work.
Come As You Are by Jess K Hardy (Free with KU)
OH my good lord did I love this book. Ex rockstar, formerly incarcerated recovering addict and a perpetually over worked divorced woman fall in love while helping save her family’s skill hill and lodge. Everyone deserves to have a Madigan in their lives. I loved him (and Ashley) and all the men of Little Timber. Also fuck Chuck forever.
Secret Daddy by K.C. Crowne (Free with KU)
I can’t actually really remember this one, but its a mafia book that was pretty forgettable. Quick read though *shrugs*.
