Arc Review: Perfect Match
You might be asking yourself, do you read anything else other than Advance Reader Copies? And to you I say, you’re not my mom, get lost. No wait, come back, I’m just kidding. I have been on an ARC kick this week, and I am not mad about it. At all. Next up in the advance review train I seem to be running is the DELIGHTFUL contemporary romance novella, Perfect Match from Eliza McLane.
I’d like to thank Eliza for the advance copy, thoughts below are my own, enjoy!
Something the pleasure centre of my brain lights right up by way Eliza writes. Both the big and small moments. The ones that are soft AND the ones that make me feel like this. So you get it. She’s a master of her craft, for real. If you haven’t read Santa Baby (her deeply fun holiday novella, you need to get on that, like yesterday).
Okay right back to the feelings, and reader there are PLENTY.
Our story picks up at a dating app event where adorable mess Rose is committed to not committing. Not to her corporate job, not to her maybe fledgling freelance graphic design business, definitely not her taxes, and ESPECIALLY not love. No way.
Tyler on the other hand, sweet shy, earnest, a little-beatdown-by-love-Tyler, is ready to find The One™.
I loved these two as their own people and as a unit. Pretty much right from the moment they meet and tell each other what kitchen gadget they would be (I married a cutting board so I was ALL IN on Tyler immediately).
From a meet cute, to a second meet cute-r, these two just kept getting drawn together. And the juxtaposition of Tylers buttoned up, straight and narrow type A, with the full bloom of personality that is Rose just kept working for me.
And of course as they spend their weekend together, the sexual hi-jinx truly were the gift that kept on giving. I’m not sure I’ll ever look at chocolate cake in a diner the same way again.
While on the surface this is a fun novella, I always admire the earnest moments Eliza is able to weave through her romances. I always know a novella is good when I finish it and feel a sense of deep contentment for the leads, and I finished this one with contentment in spades.
Their time together might have been short, but their impact on my little romance reading heart was immense.
Growth, joy, sparkling wit, connection, acts of service (sexual), acts of service (accounting), goat hikes, this one truly does it all. Pre-Order this one now, and cancel your plans for February 6th 2023, you’ll be reading and loving this one, for sure.
