ARC Review: Against The Clock
It’s just about the end of March (happy MLB Opening Day, Go Phils), and I’m rounding out this month with another really cute sports romance from Brittany Kelley. And if you know me (at all) you’ll know I LOVE a sports romance, AND if the FMC shares my name (wild) it really makes it that much better.
I’d like to thank Brittany and her PR team for the advance copy, thoughts below are my own, enjoy.
I really, REALLY enjoyed reading Kelsey and Daniel’s romance. From the really hilarious tackle based meet-cute onward this one had me bought all the way in. We have an aging (39) quarterback who is playing on a losing team (Beavers) and a young investigative reporter (25), trying to get to the bottom of the systemic mistreatment of the leagues cheerleaders. He plows into her and is essentially smitten, and friends who doesn’t want a giant hot athlete with greying temples knocking the shit out of you and instantly realizing “oh this is my future wife”.
Their meet cute goes kinda viral and the next thing you know Daniel is taking Kelsey out to get to know her, and its just really cute. He is absolutely gone for her (its giving Kieran Marsh), and she’s got some baggage about a career in football. Her dad, an ex-pro had a career-ending traumatic brain injury and is dealing with that (I feel like its alluded to be CTE but it’s never outright mentioned).
Daniel is 100% going to land on a few folks’ book bf lists for real. The man is OBSESSED with her. From taking care of her, feeding her, clothing her, and his mission to love on her so thoroughly that no one else could ever. And wow-ee, were there were some MOMENTS let me tell you. Sweet ones, swoony ones, angsty ones, funny ones. It hits all the beats of what I look for in a sports romance and I found myself smiling at my kindle so many times while I was reading it.
Genuine laughs, some very cute moments, delicious spice (hello butt stuff), chemistry and banter for days round out what I would consider a really fun read. Was it perfect? No. Did I still really like it? You better believe it. Be sure to grab this one on pre-order now so when it drops April 6th 2023 you can tell me all about how you need a Daniel of your very own.
