September Month in Review
It’s cozy szn y’all. I am beyond ready for decorative gourds, toques with every outfit, big ass flannels, and socks with my Birkenstocks (20pts to anyone that can guess where I’m from). September was a weird reading month for me. I really felt like it was a slog to read, and there were a lot of DNFs, which if you know me is VERY strange. I will tough out the crappiest of reads (I’m working on changing this), but there were a few that just did not work for me and I pulled the rip cord early.
There were definitely a few standout’s this month, but mostly just a lot of “just ok” romances. I also only read 1 ARC, which I have GOT to change in October. Alright, enough rambling are you ready to reflect on everything I read (and loved this month)? Let’s go!

Best of the Month
Widow of Rose House by Diana Biller
An infamous (and abused) woman tries to start over by restoring a house in 1880’s NYC, but she runs into some apparitions. This book was SO stinking great. I loved the paranormal aspect and Sam! What an absolute dream of a MMC. Lots of potential triggers so read with care, but if you like mysterious slash spooky historical romances, absolutely pick this one up.
Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match by Sally Thorne
This came out on early this month and you know what I really enjoyed it. The premise is a little wild (she’s Victor Frankenstein’s sister) and made me feel a little weird at some points (she basically does build-a-bear with cadavers), but the plot and mystery is compelling, and Thorne’s writing is pretty enjoyable for me. Some of Angelika’s dialog felt a skooch repetitive at times, but the connection and love story between Angelika and Will will melt hearts.
In A Jam by Kate Canterbary (Free with KU)
Single parent, it’s always been you, marriage of convenience contemporary romance from (the queen) Kate Canterbary. I expect this to top a lot of best of lists at year end. Noah Braden is daddy for real, and the love story between him and Shay is truly 10/10. But y’all one of the best best best parts of this book is Gennie. Dear god every time she showed up / opened her mouth she stole the entire scene. I can’t wait to re-read this one before the end of the year.
Flawless by Elsie Silver (Free with KU)
I think one of my romance twitter follows had posted about this, and seeing it on KU made it a no brainer to pick up. And you know what I regret nothing. Age gap, forced proximity, sports romance with a twist, with lots of caretaking if that’s your thing! Looking forward to the next book in the series, featuring the grumpy single dad Cade.
Forever After All by Catharina Maura (Free with KU)
Consider me very easily influenced. This is a billionaire marriage of convenience romance that was gooooooood. Also I love a billionaire that is basically mafia type alphahole. Bo Burnham voice 🎵I’m problematic 🎵.
A Wicked Game by Kate Bateman (eARC)
Book three in the ruthless rivals series was just a stinking DELIGHT. A pre war bet of three kisses is wagered for safe return, and good lord does this one get just the right amount of steamy. Fans of the series will love, check my full advance review here.
