The Weekly Recap
Well, well well. If it isn’t me, a very anxious Phillies fan. Y’all we made it to the WORLD SERIES. Dear lord what a season, and f*ck my life aged about 15 years, on Friday during game 1.
We’re up 1-0 and still have lots of work to do. Ring the bell, ride with Philly Rob, noted defensive superstar Nick Castellanos, Bedlam at the Bank and all that.
But what did I read this week? Well let me tell you all about it.
The Ex Effect by Karla Sorensen (Free with KU)
I was riding such a high from the NLCS win that I devoured a whole bunch of Karla’s sports romances. This was fun, breezy and nailed the friends to lovers + pro athlete vibes I was desperately craving. The thing I love about these books is that they kind of walk the line between a little wacky rom-com but still full of all the feels.
The Marriage Effect by Karla Sorensen (Free with KU)
Following right along with book 3 in this series (and the follow up to the Ex Effect) is all about Paige and Logan. I loved this one too, Logan has custody of his 4 younger half-sisters and marries ex super model Paige to ensure he can keep them together, safe and happy. Look, clearly I was feeling some type of way this week and this one also really worked for me.
Focused by Karla Sorensen (Free with KU)
I couldn’t be stopped. This is Molly (one of Logan’s sisters from the Marriage Effect) and the boy she’s kind of loved from afar for a very long time. A fictionalized version of Hard Knocks follows our two MCs and I really liked the grumpy / sunshine, enemies to reluctant friends to lovers arc.
Faked by Karla Sorensen (Free with KU)
I dunno if it was me really liking the other books, but I felt like this one was a little less believable. Also I don’t for a MINUTE believe Lia didn’t stir sh*t up by accident.
Highland Secret by Kerrigan Byrne (Free with KU)
A very quick, enjoyable magical novella from one of my favourites: Kerrigan Byrne. All about a woman with the sight, and a cursed Beserker warrior. Fated mates. Giant grumbly man. It all worked for me.
In the Weeds by B.K. Borison (Free with KU)
Holy sh*t I love these books. This one might have been better for me than the first one. BUT I loved the first one too. Beckett is daddy for real. And Evelyn just meets him where he is all the time. PLUS, plus plus the sensory issues are handled with a lot of love and care. If you’re looking for a small town, second chance romance with two folks just looking for their happy, this is it.
Duke Most Wicked by Lenora Bell
I jumped from book 1 right to book 3 with this one and it was really good! We have a scandalous Duke, 5 sisters, a music teacher slash governess slash spinster who is PINING for her boss. I really liked this, and will really work for folks that read and loved Lorraine Heath’s The Duchess Hunt.
How To Catch a Wild Viscount by Tessa Dare
I just wanted to read something quick and delightful and this wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for. Still good, but there was just something missing for me. That being said, Tessa is such a freaking great author and the by-play between all the manor visitors was chef’s kiss.
Bound by Blood by Cynthia Eden
I have no idea what this even is. Vampires, werewolves, demons? It was a fever dream.
