7 Great Reads on Kindle Unlimited
I subscribed to Kindle Unlimited in early 2020 and 198 books later I have not looked back. I decided to take the plunge, specifically because I had read that all of Mariana Zapata’s backlist was free with your subscription. And as documented ya girl LOVES Mariana Zapata and her grumpy AF, slow-burn hero’s.
For the uninitiated, Kindle Unlimited (aka KU) is a monthly subscription from Amazon that gives to access to over 1 Million titles and can be accessed on any mobile device with a kindle app OR through your amazon kindle. My KU subscription paid for itself pretty quickly, and like I mentioned have read 198 (and counting) titles, this year through that service alone. I wanted to share 7 of my fave KU reads to get you started.
Blindsided by Amy Daws
What did I tell y’all about my Scottish-brogue issues. Here we are again with Scottish professional midfielder Mac and lovely seamstress Freya. Ah this one has a few just delightful tropes: the over 30 virgin, the I’ll be your bed-sport coach, the oh shit now I have deep feelings for this person and I don’t know how to process it. This one is another journey, for both of our main characters. Freya, is a 30-year-old virgin who, wait for it, is not the standard-stick-thin-perfection that often times fills the pages of these romance novels.
Seeing Mac and Freya’s legitimate friendship become a tension filled anything-but-platonic-love fest is quite something. And for those of you out there that aren’t the stock standard sample size, it’s refreshing to read that level of representation.
The Christmas Fix by Lucy Score
This is the sequel (but not really) to Mr. Fixer Upper insofar as that it is about Cat (the sister from book 1). This is a great, holiday read that will give fans of Ben Wyatt and Leslie Knope something to swoon about.
Here we have a grumpy city planner (Noah) and a bubbly, heart first renovation expert (Cat) smushed together to save a town devastated by a recent natural disaster. This has lots to love: hot single dad, small town shenanigans, dirty talk (which I read aloud to my husband) and of course Christmas goodness to warm your heart.
Charmed by the Past by Amiee Robinson
This one gained a lot of momentum over on r/romancebooks subreddit, with a few folks posting screen grabs of some dialog and scenes that were just the perfect mix of reality and humour. Amiee has created a DELIGHTFUL read that marries time-travel, and historical romance so beautifully.
A woman researching her family tree for a upcoming family reunion is transported back in time during 1918 to a hospital where here grandfather would met her grandmother. Again a little weird to read about the Spanish Flu, but it’s not the main driver in the story.
Sarah and Jacob, my lord these two really just grabbed onto my heart and refused to let go. You’ll love getting inside of Jacob’s head and heart as he truly grapples with Sarah, and her shocking admission: she is from the future.
Melt for You by J.T. Geissinger
Ya’ll this book is SO flipping great. It’s book 2 in a 3 book series called Slow Burn, which are all stand alone novels with no cheating and of course wonderful HEA’s. This is a friends to lovers adventure of a book that has Joellen (a shy woman with a crush on her boss) with her new neighbour Scottish Rugby superstar Cameron. After a pretty disastrous meet cute, Jo slowly opens up to Cam about why she’s trying to change herself for her boss. And Cam being the gentleman he is, decides he’s going to help her not only get her groove back but work out with her and get her confidence up.
Of COURSE these two crazy kids end up all kinds of tangled up in each other, and some angsty moments ensue.
Throttled by Lauren Asher
This is the first in a 4 book series (Dirty Air) following some hot F1 boys as they race around the globe and find their soulmates. First up in Throttled, we have Noah and his rival’s younger sister Maya. Maya is a recent grad, who is kind of floating along with little direction until her brother suggests she tag along on tour with him.
Maya is a budding photographer and vlogger and is soon documenting her travels and behind the scenes with her famous F1 fam and new friends. Noah, gosh is he just a little muffin that wants all the love and has been shown none of it. Lots of found family vibes, that were cute AF and hot love scenes courtesy of our queen Lauren Asher.
One Percent of You by Michelle Gross
That feeling when you get into an argument at a grocery store with a 3 year old and her mom tuns out to be your soul mate. This was a heavily recommended KU find courtesy of my romance book pals on Reddit. One Percent of You was a really domestic, everyday person read, which I mean in the NICEST way possible. Sometimes you just want to read about domesticity, normalcy and family units that are a maybe little broken until they are not.
Lucy (the 3 year old) and Elijah really steal so many moments in this book and you’ll love them for it. Hadley has had it ROUGH but wow was it so nice to see her continue to better herself for her children and then THRIVE. Watching the love bloom from reluctant friendship between her and Elijah to such deep connection was SO nice and gave me some light “Wait For It” vibes.
The Wrong Game by Kandi Steiner
The Wrong Game is a really great story of grief, deception, football and new love all wrapped up into a story that will make you feel ALL of the things. We start out with Gemma, reeling from finding out her husband who has died of cancer has been cheating on her. Determined to live her life the way she wants she get seasons tickets to her beloved Chicago Bears and decides she’s going to invite a new guy each home game to get back out there.
Chicago bartender and all around babe Zachary overhears Gemma and her friend cooking up this idea and decides to volunteer as tribute, just to break the ice for her, of course. This one is a real journey and you’ll love meeting the other fans in their stadium section, including Zach’s grand gesture that will make you laugh and maybe want to cry a few happy tears.
