ARC Review: My Rogue To Ruin

I’ve fallen so deeply in love with these darn Wynchester siblings that I am both eagerly awaiting Elizabeth and Jacob’s books and also absolutely dreading the day when this series is complete.

You guessed it, I read the upcoming fourth book (in what might be one of my favourite historical romance series of all time) My Rogue to Ruin by Erica Ridley.

I’d like to thank NetGalley and Forever for the advance copy, thoughts below are my own, enjoy!

I think that there is something so inherently special about this family Erica has crafted. They are so fun and kind and earnest and funny, and just so genuinely love and care for each other that my goodness do I love reading their love stories. This outing, is no different than books 1-3 which is to say it’s equal parts magic and delight. I would encourage y’all to read this in order, just to get a sense of how the siblings really do love and support each other, but if you did want to snag this (or any of the others) as a stand-alone you won’t lessen the enjoyment at all!

This time our Wynchester in the romantic spotlight is our shy gal Marjorie. The cunning and brilliant artist who does love a forgery (as long as it helps those that need help the most!) and Lord Adrian Webb an absolute scoundrel who also has a penchant for forging a vase or two. Adrian gets into a pickle when he tries to untangle himself from a shifty character who has been peddling forged artifacts to unsuspecting lordlings. Having failed spectacularly at extricating himself from his ‘deb’ Adrian starts down a path that would surely lead to ruin (see what I did there).

Pretty quickly Marjorie, is ready to ‘prove’ to her siblings that she can hang with them and their fantastical exploits. I gotta say I just love this micro-trope. When an MC is certain they are unable to be as spectacular as their siblings because they have a skewed view of themselves. Only to (against all odds) sort out that they are, in-fact, just as magical as they think their siblings are. I mean:

You’re Marjorie Wynchester, I will always have faith in you. You should too.

Whew.

From the moment (well maybe the second moment) Marjorie and Adrian meet, friends I was all in. I love the way Erica tells stories. They are earnest, and soft and sexy and this one is all those things (and more). The banter here is truly out of control great and I kept catching myself grinning at my kindle like a (you guessed it) lunatic.

Two of my favourite moments (one from Adrian)

She was so sweet, it pained him. So mischevious it charmed him. So unpredictable it dazed him. So Marjorie, that just being near her made him feel as though he were welcomed in the heavens.

And one from my man HBIC Liz:

“I can loan you a sword,” Elizabeth offered. “Men are fifty percent more tolerable after they’ve been run through with a sharp blade.”

The central conflict and resulting Wynchester adventure was a freaking delight! And it held up to my high expectations and kept me hooked from page 1 all the way to the epilogue. Grab this one for any of the following:

  • Banter

  • Found family

  • Competence porn but make it antiquities

  • A coterie of hilarious homing animals (thank you Jacob)

  • Delicious smut

  • Two self sacrificing ding dongs (affectionate)

  • Disability rep

  • Did I mention banter?

I loved this one so much and I hope you’ll grab it and give it a chance. Grab it on pre-order now so you’ll have it when it lands in store and online September 12 2023. And while you’re waiting go on an read books 1-3 now (you will not regret it).
