The Weekly Recap
Well friends, it’s taken exactly 268 days, but I’ve done it. I’ve hit a week with the fewest romance books read. Cries in hyper-fixation. There’s a few things contributing to the focus struggle at the moment, but it’s not like I didn’t read anything, just well below my weekly average. However, I did read some really good ones this week, including a 10/10 new release from Kate Canterbary (that I CANNOT stop thinking about).
Okay here’s the list….
In a Jam by Kate Canterbary (Free with KU)
Single parent, it’s always been you, marriage of convenience contemporary romance from (the queen) Kate Canterbary. I expect this to top a lot of best of lists at year end. Noah Braden is daddy for real, and the love story between him and Shay is truly 10/10. But y’all one of the best best best parts of this book is Gennie. Dear god every time she showed up / opened her mouth she stole the entire scene. I can’t wait to re-read this one before the end of the year.
Her Daddy’s Sunshine by Laylah Roberts (Free with KU)
DD/lg romance, that didn’t really work for me.
The Secret by Julie Garwood
Julie Garwood’s medieval romances are like a balm. Are they predictable? Yes. Do they generally follow a similar thread? Absolutely. Are they just fantastic? One hundred percent. This one is, of course no different. Giant man, meets small defiant woman, he’s smitten, she can’t be bothered to fall in love. Danger! Grumpy, sunshine dynamics just slap regardless of time period.
Something in the Heir by Suzanne Enoch
Again with the romances where the kids really steal the show, but fam to call this a “romance” feels like a WILD stretch. I loved the premise: a couple in a (historical) marriage of convenience need to get married and have kids to keep their ancestral home. After 5 years of trying and no children to show for it, Emmie makes up two heirs. To perfect, wonderful heirs. But with her grandfathers 77th birthday coming up, she needs to sort out this little lie, with the help of her (now) platonic husband. Who apparently has been in love with her on and off throughout the entirety of their 8 year union. I JUST WANTED MORE ROMANCE. WHERE WAS THE ROMANCE. It’s an enjoyable enough story overall, including Rose and George who just kill it in each scene they’re in. But readers looking for a swoony romance, should keep on searching.
