The Weekly Recap

Y’all this week was a whirlwind. Work has been taking so much mental capacity / bandwidth that my normal habits of reading a few chapters on my lunch or wellness breaks kind of flew out the window. This might be my lightest week of reading in over a year? I’d have to go back through these posts to confirm, but oof, didn’t really get through much. As my never ending TBR mounts, my ARCs are calling my name, I’m hoping next week (as we wrap up July?!) I’ll read close to my normal weekly amount.

Okay here’s what I read this week…

Unwritten Rules by K.D. Casey

K.D. Casey writes the most emotionally moving love stories. But she also writes the BEST love stories as the backdrop to baseball. I love how she writes, the complex characters she creates and how much I love the love they share. Much like Reid and Charlie from Fire Season, Zach and Eugenio are my little bb’s and I freaking love them.

The Trouble with Whiskey by Melissa Foster

This one felt like a weird hallmark movie slash car accident that I couldn’t look away from. It was kind of insane for me, I mean at one point the MMC somehow perfectly times a plane jump parachute landing right where the FMC is out for a run??? Also the MMC is a adrenaline chaser to a fault, incarceration transition therapist (with some potentially unethical practices), and a patched member of a MC?! A one point he just casually tells the FMC he would be jumping 6 buses that day… y’all it was wild.

The Perfect Rake by Anne Gracie

This f*cking book was perfect. Might be a shoe-in for one of the best historical romances I read this year. Prudence and Gideon are so freaking delightful as a pairing and gosh does she deserve someone to love the absolute shit out of her after all she’s been through. I also was just screeching repetitively about how blind Gideon seems to be about her sisters (famous) natural beauty, and utter bewilderment that no one else seems to be smitten with Prudence. A king. Love him.

The Duke’s Accidental Bride by Eva Devon (ARC)

Childhood friends to lovers, plus older brothers best friend who is committed to playing matchmaker, denying their own feelings for each other. This was a nice (albeit a little repetitive) historical romance that’s out August 1st. Full review here.

Princess and the Player by Ilsa Madden-Mills (ARC)

Two people with deep childhood trauma and abandonment issues have a one night stand at a sex-club that leads to an unexpected pregnancy. Full advanced review here.

Twisted Emotions by Cora Reilly (Free with KU)

Don’t bother. (Also learned some things about CR post read that made me feel really yucky.)
