The Weekly Recap

It’s been a week hasn’t it? Still feeling pretty exhausted from the news cycle and court rulings, that just never seem to give anyone (with a conscience) a moment’s peace. I read a few good ones this week, and a REAL end of series disappointment (there I said it) in book 4 of the Twisted series. I’ve been mostly holed up in my room with a migraine so you get what you get today folks.

Oh and the Phillies came back from a 5-0 start on Saturday to rally to 6-6 then lost 7-6 in game two to the Cardinals, but I still love them so everything is fine.

The Devil You Know by Elizabeth O’Roark (Free with KU)

Workplace, rivals, to friends to lovers is a 10/10 trope and I am here for this one from Elizabeth O’Roark. There’s something about the way she writes her leads that just does it for me every time, and Ben and Gemma were no exception.

How My Boring Life Was Completely Derailed (and I was absolutely railed) By Two Big Blue Alien Dudes From Outer Space by M.L. Eliza (Free with KU)

Oh my god this novella was hilarious and filthy and I LOVED it. I mean I could go into it, but the title really (and I mean really) speaks for itself.

Last Resort by K. Bromberg

I loved K. Bromberg’s Love To series (with all those babes who work at a sports management agency) and went into this one expecting the same vibes, and I gotta tell you I loved the first 20% and the last 80% was a hot mess for me. Enjoyable enough, but I caught myself skimming.

Love is a Rogue by Lenora Bell

My first Lenora Bell historical romance! I loved the cover a lot, and had basically no idea what I was getting myself into with this one. BUT friends, it was such a great romance. And a gender swapped retelling of beauty and the beast, plus feminism and societies for lady knitters. Also we love a MMC that reads and appreciates a good gothic romance, swoon.

Searching for Elsie by Susan Stoker

I didn’t mind the first one in Stokers Eagle Point SAR series and figured I would grab this one as a bit of a palette cleanser read. Single mom Elsie and her 9 year old Tony (also as an aside the name Tony for a 9 year old was sending me the entire read). Was it the best thing I’ve read, no, was it enjoyable enough that I stuck with it, yes. I did find the suspense-part of this romantic suspense a little lacking and the resolution a little too quick and tidy, but otherwise it was ok overall.

Twisted Lies by Ana Huang (Free with KU)

One of my more highly anticipated 2022 releases, was Twisted Lies, the last of Ana Huang’s very popular Twisted series. Christian and Stella, insert Tyra banks we were rooting for you gif. Because OOF y’all this was such a disappointment for me. Messy, muddled and mostly boring throughout (even though imho these two had THE MOST TO WORK WITH), I was really bummed with this one.

The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston

I don’t even know how I found out about this book, I think maybe Twitter? But the premise (millennial ghost writer who can see and talk with ghosts, ends up falling in love with her recently deceased editor) got me good. And oh my god y’all this book was EVERYTHING. It’s definitely going to be making my top of year lists, and good lord what an excellent romance and story all around. I also don’t even give a single flying f*ck its #reylo fanfic because it was PERFECT and so wonderful.
