The Weekly Recap

Folks what a wild week it’s been. I read some really fantastic romances this week, and unfortunately read and really disliked an ARC I was SO freaking excited about. And the more space I put between myself and that read, the more, uh angry I get? I dunno, like it said it’s been a wild week.

Talk Flirty To Me by Livy Hart

Two high-school exes are forced together to help the other achieve their professional aspirations. Again, much like The Make-Up Test I was expecting more and finished this feeling a little let down. Add to all of this the whole taking care of all the kids, being kind of really focused on whether they were “on a break” or not. I dunno y’all, je suis disappointed.

The Make-Up Test by Jenny L. Howe (ARC)

Like I said the more I sat with this, the more angry I became. This one was brutal with a capital B. I’m still trying to figure out why we EVEN LIKE COLIN. But what’s more is WHY DO WE LIKE ALLISON? Miss this one, y’all. It’s an exercise in angry reading. If you’re interested here’s the full advanced review.

Imperfect Saint by Jess Bryant (Free with KU)

This was a sweet, romantic and suspenseful bodyguard romance and connects a woman recovering from years of physical and emotional abuse with an ex marine-turned-professional bodyguard. Lots of sweet supportive moments between Millie and Hunter while she’s places in super uncomfortable situations. There were def moments that were a little OTT, but nothing too much that took away from the connection and love.

The Dom Who Loved Me by Lexi Blake

I thankfully stumbled upon this first book in the Masters and Mercenaries thanks to the horny babes over on reddit. This is a BDSM romance that heavily features a D/s relationship between a younger man and a 40 year old mother of two college age kids who is a widow. She’s accidentally wrapped up in a huge plot to sell secrets to adversarial governments, and Sean Taggart, the ex Green Beret is sent in uncover to figure out how she’s involved. This one was super fun (and it was free on Apple Books).

Juniper Hill by Denvey Perry

A very sweet single mom, starting over romance. Small town. Grumpy chef. Protective vibes. Hot mountain men with small babies. Some of the 3rd act tension, you could absolutely see coming, but rest assured we all get a HEA, small babies included.

My Kind of Earl by Vivienne Lorret

I love Vivienne Lorret. I love how she writes her love interests. These two were SO freaking sweet together. The horde makes some sweet moments, full of humour and really helps land how much Jane is holding SO much together. Also the endearments, ‘little professor’, I mean c’mon.

Sweet Berries by C.M. Nacosta (Free with KU)

Last year, a lil book by the name of Morning Glory Milking Farm took booktok (and reddit) by storm. NGL, it was fantastic and I am super excited to let y’all know book 2 in the Cambric Creek series is SUCH a soft and sweet delight. This time we get to swoon over Merrick the adorkable Mothman and Grace, a human. This was everything I was hoping for, plus all the smutty smut I have come to expect (and love) in a C.M. Nacosta romance.
