The Weekly Recap

Y’all it’s that time of the week again. Where I tell you all the things I read, and why I liked / loved or loathed them. But what else happened this week? Well work has been really mentally exhausting, which is going to continue for the next couple weeks while I facilitate a load of user research. Thank god for romance novels. My Phillies have been CRUSHING it (what’s up 9-0 record in June). And I’m trying not to stress about all the ARCs I have piling up that I need to get to (curse you mood-reading style). I know, #humblebrag.

Spider’s Mate Trilogy by Tiffany Roberts (Free with KU)

Ensnared | Enthralled | Bound

Let’s again thank the bald-book-overlord Jeffery Bezos for continually showing me these books on my Kindle. Listen the algorithm does not miss. I also will tell y’all I started these as a, laugh. Like oh I’ll read the spider alien romance, and it will be silly and we will all laugh about it. AND OMG this whole series was IT. Immaculate vibes. 10/10 no notes. Okay wait some notes. Ivy and Ketahn were SO freaking cute. These fated mates were so warm and gooey, and might be a real 2022 romance highlight.

Stuck With You by Ali Hazelwood

Book 2 in the interconnected STEMinist novellas, features Sadie, environmental architecture / engineer and Erik (fellow engineer? I dunno I couldn’t quite figure it out). Regardless, I found these two actually SO freaking cute together. Whereas in book 1 we had a lot of grunting and ignoring, these two have a wild insta connection that TOTALLY worked for me. Also this one was way more steamy. Here’s hoping book 3 is even better than this one (though it feels like it might be hard to top).

Taken by the Alien Next Door by Tiffany Roberts (Free with KU)

Well it was a big “fated mates” week for me here on Let’s Get Lit. This was a sweet alien romance with a plus sized woman as the love interest and an Alien sent on a mission to secure a mating bond and get to breeding. It was a quick, low-angst, high heat love story that I liked, maybe not the most original or like gripping but a good pallet cleanser.

The Men With The Golden Cuffs by Lexi Blake

Book 2 in the romantic suspense BDSM series features a THROUPLE. Y’all this was actually pretty good. A little repetitive, and at some points I was like ready to reach through the pages and throttle Jake. Overall pretty good.

My Killer Vacation by Tessa Bailey

Alright the book with the ever-changing cover finally arrived and y’all I did grab and read it. And Oof I’m still trying to figure out what happened. There was some treatment of the gay brother that felt so inappropriate, and often times kinda homophobic? Add to this, the “murder mystery”, which felt like a vehicle to get them to smush?! I dunno this was a haute mess for me.

Ill-Fated Mate by Jordan Monroe (eARC)

Y’all this one is landing in stores and online June 14th and is THE most surprisingly delightful monster romance I’ve read this year. Take a peek at the full review here.

How to Steal a Scoundrel‘s Heart by Vivienne Lorret

Ah the mating habits of scoundrels is such a delightful historical romance series, and yes book 4 is JUST as good as all the rest. Thought Ellie and Prue’s stories have been my favourites. This had so many of my fave tropes: rake who refuses to fall in love (then thoroughly gets his ass kicked by his feelings), a marriage of convenience, espionage and thievery, pining, heartbreak, a grand gesture. It was just great.
