The Weekly Recap
Y’all, you know what I had a pretty ok week. Harry’s House dropping on Friday was a work day DELIGHT. And I’m doing a better job with wellness routines, and taking better care of myself throughout the day (come through consistently eating lunch). Bit of a mixed bag this week reading wise, read one complete STINKER, and a few really lovely ones, including finally succumbing to the twitter hype that is Will Sumner. Okay, okay you’re all correct, he’s pretty perfect.
Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren
A few of my twitter moots, every so often will talk about their love of Will Sumner, and after some frantic Googling I, come to find out he’s the MMC of Beautiful Player. I read Beautiful Bastard (Bennet & Chloe’s love story) last year and had the best time with that truly wacky extremely horny tale of two business professionals with an obsession with La Perla and smushing in stairwells. Right, where was I. OKAY I GET THE HYPE. This was really really f*cking great. Older brothers best friend, age gap, reformed player, dating coach, god this book really did it for me. Proud to be a new card carrying member of the Will Sumner fan club.
Taste by Melanie Harlow (Free with KU)
Melanie’s books are always great picks when I’m sitting between reads figuring out what I’m in the mood for. They are light, sweet, hot and are easy breezy reads. This one was reminiscent of her book Call Me Crazy, which is the tale of childhood “enemies” who end up entering into a marriage of convenience so she can have a baby. While this one lacks the MoC, it does have a surprise baby subplot. Look I didn’t actively dislike this one, I just felt like there was not enough actual growth (on both sides) between the baby reveal and the HEA.
Owned by a Sinner by Michelle Heard (Free with KU)
We can thank Jeffery, Jeffery Bezos for this algorithmic recommendation. This Irish Mafia romance was equal parts sweet, spicy and just a touch dark. There are some on page moment of SA, assault and attempted r*pe (which progressed pretty far) so please read with caution if any of these themes are troubling for you. Liam and Kiara are pretty good together though, he’s got touch aversion (until her) and she’s looking to be loved and protected. I dunno it worked for me.
Luxuria by Colette Rhodes (Free with KU)
I love a Colette Rhodes love story. Because they are filthy as hell but also genuinely hilarious. Fated mates, knotting, monster f*cking, alternate realms, believable romantic moments, this book has everything. Glad I picked this up on recommendation from my fellow horny readers at r/romancebooks. Really looking forward to book 2 in this series.
Bachelor Bargain by Maddison Michaels
Back on my HR bullsh*t and y’all is this not just the most delightful romance! This is perfect for fans of Joanna Shupe’s Prince of Broadway and The Devil of Downtown or Stacy Reid’s Sinful Wallflowers series. It involves my fave things: the big scary one is soft for the small sweet one. And the small sweet one is actually a little mischievous one. Lady Olivia Haliford, A Duke’s daughter, set on exposing the man responsible for her friends death, enlists the big scary Bastard of Baker Street Sebastian Colver to help her. The longing! The pining! The danger! The sex! The class differences! Disability rep! Y’all this one will really just grab onto your heart front the beginning and will refuse to let go.
Reapers Legacy by Joanna Wylde
Okay, I really have no one to blame but myself for finishing this wildly terrible Motorcycle Club romance. Misogyny, racism, assault, and the MMC just legit hates women. And the first time the FMC questioned someone she just met on their ancestry I should have noped right out of there. This one is bad, do not read.
To Seduce a Sinner by Elizabeth Hoyt
If you liked (or loved) 10 Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake or Her Wicked Marquess, I think folks might like this historical romance. A marriage of convenience, with a Viscount and a woman who has been in love with him (from a far) for years. I think I liked the concept of this one more than I liked the execution. I didn’t hate it, but it was kind of a slog to get through.
