The week that was…
Well, well well here we are. Another week done and dusted, and I really leant on reading to cope with just about ALL the things. The world feels (and in some cases is) especially bleak right now, so I’m taking respite in the things that are still helping me find comfort and small moments of joy.
Speaking of joy, here’s what I got up to this week…
The Ghost by Jessica Gadziala (Free with KU)
Mostly mad that I spite read this and didn’t abandon it when the MMC was mostly a legit misogynist and not a grumpy misunderstood fellow. The bodyguard trope has been done better, elsewhere I promise.
Heavy by Cate C. Wells (Free with KU)
After meeting Dina and Heavy in Against a Wall, I figured I would jump in and read their love story. This is a small town motorcycle club romance with a surprising amount of heat, tenderness and plot to keep things moving along nicely. I wasn’t sure how I felt about these two but after a few chapters they both grew on me as individuals and as a couple, and that Vegas VIP room was all kinds of hot, good lord.
Her Daddies Saving Grace by Laylah Roberts (Free with KU)
Pallet cleansing smutty, kink-loving nonsense that I do not regret for a f-cking moment.
Chasing Cassandra by Lisa Kleypas
There is something deeply comforting about a Lisa Kleypas love interest and y’all Tom Severin might be up there right with Rhys “NOT FIVE FUCKING MINUTES” Winterbourne. We’ve seen Tom in a few previous series books, and here is he again with his no more than 5 emotions. With one of the most iconic first lines said to his future wife and soulmate: I’ll be your oyster. There are almost too many moments to recount here, all this to say Tom and Cassandra will deliver on ALL the swoony romantic moments. And that grand gesture which I might add isn’t even attached to Tom trying to fix his own f-ck up is 10/10 perfection.
The Lady Gets Lucky by Joanna Shupe
Following up Heiress Hunt, which I didn’t love I was sceptical to jump back into this series, and friends let me tell you I am SO GLAD I DID. This book was everything. Kit and Alice were SO delightful together, and what’s not to love about a carefree playboy being a sex tutor to a innocent sweet heiress? Nothing, that’s what.
Seeing Kit help Alice break out of the awful shell her mother had constructed around her was really so wonderful. Especially how much he truly became her best friend and biggest supporter. And our man Kit being just WRECKED by sweet Alice was equal parts hilarious and endearing. These two are such great partners and make for legit soul mates. Now I really need Preston and Katherine’s book!
Bold Fortune by M.M. Crane
Great for fans of Adriana Anders Whiteout and Uncharted books. This is a soft, small town opposites attract story with low heat and ALL the heart. I loved Quinn and Violet, which based on my track record it’s not at all surprising. Gruff honor bound to the land Quinn and perpetually optimistic Violet make for a TRULY delightful pairing as he tries to convince her she’s not cut out for remote Alaska and she just smiles at him harder and becomes a “women of action”. This was low-stakes and gave me all the feelings.
