The Weekly Recap

Well hello again! Yes it is Sunday which means it’s weekly recap™ time. And fam what a week it was. First is it even a week in romancelandia without some LEGIT nonsense on twitter?! If you’re out of the loop, a book blogger TAGGED an author in a DNF review and used the acronym DIRT which they said means don’t invest reading time (eye roll am I right?!).

The book they DNF’d? A BRILLIANT romance and look at celebrity, purity culture, recovery and the strength to find who you are as you grow up. This person is out here TAGGING authors in their BS reviews because they’re projecting some moral superiority bullshit. Get that out of authors mentions ya big dumb dumb. Clearly DIRT now stands for Don’t Incite Romance Twitter.

Okay, stepping down from my soapbox, lots of short hot books this week and one I am still scratching my head over.

Her Night With Santa by Adriana Herrera (free with KU)
A very short F/F erotic novella that features a female Claus, some ergonomic sex toys and a weekend at a beach front property. Hell yes this was BONKERS in the best way and I will be rereading it immediately.

The Toy King by Adriana Herrera (free with KU)
Set in the same universe, this time its a case of growly viking guy needs to transport his brothers betrothed, but oops were V horny for each other and also sex toys. OH and heart-mates. Also great and exactly what I needed to follow up HNwS with.

Tempt by Melanie Harlow (free with KU)
This was a complete mood pick up and I fell for the tropes y’all. I fell so hard. She’s plus sized, wedding planner, he’s a much older ex-SEAL that has baggage. Oops he’s also her ex-bf’s estranged father. I wanted this to be SO much better than the reality of this read was for me. It felt clunky as heck, and unresolved, but also magically everything worked out? I dunno vibes are off for me.

The Changeup by Megan Cousins (free with KU)
As I refrain from writing this in all caps, I will say completely rationally and calmly that I fucking loved this book, and everything Megan writes. Jenna and Marcus 5ever.

Snowstorm by Cassie Mint (free with KU)
I forgot I read this. Its a contemporary novella, he’s a duke, she’s a university photography student snowed in at his manor. This whole thing has been done better elsewhere.

The Governess Affair by Courtney Milan
Wow this one kicked me in my heart a lot. Check the content warnings but y’all this book is so swoony, witty and the connection between the Serena and Hugo was exactly what I was needing and part of why I freaking LOVE historical romances.

If You Deceive by Kresley Cole
Confession, I’ve never read a KC historical and (classic me) jumped into the 3rd in this series about cursed Scottish highlander brothers. I feel like Cole writes the type of MMC that I really dig (he’s a big stubborn dumbass who gets his ass kicked when he realizes he’s in love) but oof she REALLY walked the line with Ethan. He did some prime dumbass shit with Maddie and for like 3 seconds I was ready to throw my kindle out the window but, the subsequent torture of his heart made it worth it. I loved it.
